The Cleveland Cavaliers waive Mychel Thompson

Blogged under Bloglockers,Comings & Goings,Front Page,General by admin on Monday 6 February 2012 at 9:27 pm

The Cavaliers have waived 23-year old, rookie shooting guard Mychel Thompson.  Thompson played in 5 games (3 starts) for the Cavs this year and he averaged 19.0 minutes, 3.6 points, 1.0 rebound and 1.4 assists per game.  He only shot 7 of 24 (29.2%) from the floor this year and that is a big reason for the Cavs letting him go.  Daniel Gibson is ready to return to action and that bumped Thompson off the roster.  The Cavaliers won’t miss Thompson at all moving forward.

Anderson Varejao is playing outstanding basketball for the Cleveland Cavaliers

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Steppin Up by admin on Monday 6 February 2012 at 6:37 pm

29-year old center Anderson Varejao is taking his game to a new level for the Cavaliers in 2011-12.  In his last four games, Varejao is averaging 16.8 points, 15.3 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.3 steals per game.  He has now played in 22 games (all starts) for the Cavs so far this year and he is averaging 31.9 minutes, 10.8 points, 11.9 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.3 steals per game.  Varejao already has 12 double/doubles this year in points and rebounds as he has been very effective around the basket this year.  I don’t see any reason to think that Varejao is going to slow down any time soon.  His all out effort on both ends of the basketball court often inspires his teammates.

Cleveland Cavaliers 91, Dallas Mavericks 88

The Cavaliers only shot 39.8% from the floor last night but they outrebounded the Mavericks 46-39 to help them get a nice home win over the defending NBA Champions.  Kyrie Irving led the way for the Cavs in this game with 20 points, 4 rebounds, 7 assists and 2 steals.  Antawn Jamison only shot 6 of 18 from the floor but he still finished up with 19 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals.  Anderson Varejao had another huge game for the Cavs with 17 points, 17 rebounds and 3 assists last night.  Alonzo Gee pitched in with 12 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals off the bench in this game.  The Cavs are now 9-13 on the year.

The Cavaliers were down 72-53 last night after three quarters before they woke up.  The Cavs outscored the Magic 41-30 in the 4th quarter last night, but it was too little, too late.  The Cavs only shot 36.7% from the floor last year but they outrebounded the Magic 57-45.  Alonzo Gee led the way for the Cavs last night with 20 points, 5 rebounds and 1 blocked shot in 31 minutes off the bench.  Kyrie Irving (18 points, 4 rebounds and 6 assists on 7 of 21 shooting from the floor) and Antawn Jamison (16 points, 12 rebounds, 1 steal and 1 blocked shot on 6 of 19 shooting from the floor) didn’t shoot too well but they were still productive last night.  Ramon Sessions (14 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists in 26 minutes) and Anderson Varejao (12 points, 15 rebounds, 1 assist, 3 steals and 1 blocked shot) also pitched in with solid games for the Cavaliers last night.  The Cavs are now 8-13 on the year.

The Cavaliers outrebounded the Celtics 39-28 but they still fell short despite outscoring them 32-17 in the 4th quarter.  Kyrie Irving (21 points, 1 rebound and 6 assists) and Anderson Varejao (20 points, 20 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 blocked shot) led the way for the Cavaliers in this game.  Antawn Jamison (12 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal and 1 blocked shot) and Alonzo Gee (11 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist and 4 steals) also pitched in for the Cavaliers last night.  The Cavs are now 8-12 on the year.

Antawn Jamison is still playing decent ball for the Cleveland Cavaliers

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game recaps,General by admin on Monday 30 January 2012 at 2:25 pm

35-year old power forward Antawn Jamison is still playing decent basketball for the Cavs and he is also mentoring rookie Tristan Thompson.  Jamison has played in 19 games (all starts) for the Cavs so far this year and he is averaging 30.5 minutes, 15.0 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.1 steals per game.  He is not shy about shooting despite not shooting that well.  Jamison is only shooting 40.3% from the floor, 38.4% from three point range and 62.3% from the free throw line so far this year.  Don’t look for him to shoot less any time soon though as Jamison and Kyrie Irving are the only two Cavs averaging more than 10 points per game so far this year.

The Cavaliers showed no heart for the first 3.5 quarters last night before turning it on and falling just a tad short.  The Cavs did outrebound the Nets 45-35 last night, but it wasn’t enough to get a win.  Kyrie Irving almost brought the Cavs back by himself last night as he scored an amazing 21 points in the 4th quarter.  Irving led the way for the Cavs in this game with 32 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals.  Antawn Jamison also had a very solid game with 20 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal and 1 blocked shot.  Ramon Sessions pitched in with 11 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists in this game.  The Cavaliers are now 7-11 on the year.

Omri Casspi needs to toughen up for the Cleveland Cavaliers

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Need to step up by admin on Friday 27 January 2012 at 1:15 am

The Cleveland Cavaliers need 23-year old small forward Omri Casspi to toughen up a little bit.  He has played in 17 games (all starts) for the Cavs so far this year and he is averaging 21.4 minutes, 8.1 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game.  Casspi was supposed to add some long range firepower but he is only shooting 31% (13 for 42) from behind the three-point line so far this year.  If he doesn’t toughen up soon, he’s going to continue losing P.T. to 24-year old Alonzo Gee.  Gee has played in 17 games (0 starts) for the Cavs so far this year and he is averaging 25.5 minutes, 7.8 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.4 steals per game.  He is also shooting better than Casspi from long range as he has hit 11 of 31 (35.5%) three point shots so far this year.  Gee is pressing for more P.T. as he has played pretty well so far this year for the Cavs.

The Cavaliers outscored the Knicks 46-36 in the second half to surge to an impressive home win last night.  Antawn Jamison led the way for the Cavs last night with 15 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 steal.  Omri Casspi (13 points, 3 rebounds and 1 assist) and Anthony Parker (13 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 steal) also pitched in for the Cavs.  But, it was Anderson Varejao’ energy at both ends of the court that really put the Knicks away last night as he finished up with 10 points, 16 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals and 2 blocked shots.  The Cavaliers are now 7-10 on the year.
