The Cleveland Cavaliers have a couple of rookies despite not having any draft picks last June

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Rookie Report by alleyoop on Wednesday 17 November 2010 at 8:36 am

The Cavaliers worked hard to try to find some nuggets among the players that didn’t get drafted last June. They think they might have found a couple in 21-year old shooting guard Manny Harris and 22-year old power forward Samardo Samuels. Harris has played in 4 games (0 starts) for the Cavs so far this year and he is averaging 8.8 minutes, 3.5 points, 1.3 rebounds and 1.0 assist per game. He looks like he has some game but he will have a hard time getting minutes unless the Cavs suffer injuries. Samardo Samuels has played in 1 game (0 starts) for the Cavs so far this year and he has worked 7 minutes in which he scored 7 points. Samuels also will need injuries in the Cavs’ frontcourt to start getting minutes. Harris & Samuels look like they might be nice finds for the Cavs but only time will tell.

Anthony Parker is playing solid basketball for the Cleveland Cavaliers this year

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Steppin Up by alleyoop on Friday 12 November 2010 at 8:09 pm

Veteran shooting guard Anthony Parker is taking well to the new team concept of the Cavs which keeps everyone involved in the offense. He has started all 8 games for the Cavaliers so far this year and he is averaging 29.5 minutes, 9.1 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game. Parker has been shooting outstanding so far this year from long range where he is 11 of 18 (61.1%) from behind the three point line. He is also still a great defender so I see no reason to think he won’t continue getting big minutes for the Cavs this year.

The Cleveland Cavaliers will be without Mo Williams for a couple of games

Blogged under Big Cavaliers News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Injuries by alleyoop on Friday 12 November 2010 at 8:04 pm

Starting point guard Mo Williams will likely miss a couple of games due to a groin injury. Williams has played in 5 games (4 starts) so far this year for the Cavs and he is averaging 26.4 minutes, 14.6 points, 2.8 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 1.2 steals per game. His shot has been a little off so far this year as he is only hitting 36.2% of his shots from the floor. Ramon Sessions will replace Williams in the starting lineup starting tomorrow night. Sessions has played in 8 games (4 starts) for the Cavs so far this year and he is averaging 24.6 minutes, 11.3 points, 3.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game. Sessions is also having shooting issues so far as he is only hitting 38.8% of his shots from the floor but I have a feeling that he’ll do a solid job filling in for Williams.

J.J. Hickson is playing well for the Cleveland Cavaliers

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Steppin Up by alleyoop on Sunday 7 November 2010 at 9:06 am

22-year old power forward J.J. Hickson is making the most of his starting job this year. He has played in 6 games (all starts) for the Cavaliers and he is averaging 28.3 minutes, 16.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game. Hickson is shooting 50.7% from the floor and 81% from the free throw line so far this year. The Cavaliers would probably like Hickson to improve his rebounding and be more consistent on offense but he has really improved his overall game. He still has a lot of time to fine tune his game too as he is only 22 years old right now.

Cleveland Cavaliers 123, Philadelphia 76ers 116

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game recaps,General by alleyoop on Friday 5 November 2010 at 11:30 pm

The Cavaliers shot 54.7% from the floor and they outrebounded the Sixers 41-30 tonight. But they had to outscore them 44-32 in the 4th quarter to seal the win in Philly. Anderson Varejao led the way for the Cavaliers tonight with 23 points, 12 rebounds and 2 assists. Mo Williams looks like he’s back in top form as he finished up with 22 points, 3 rebounds, 7 assists and 3 steals tonight. Daniel Gibson was very solid off the bench tonight with 22 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 1 steal in 28 minutes on the floor. J.J. Hickson pitched in with 16 points, 8 rebounds and 1 steal tonight. The Cavaliers got a nice road win here to improve their record to 2-3 on the season.

Atlanta Hawks 100, Cleveland Cavaliers 88

The Cavs were outscored 26-15 in the 4th quarter last night and it did them in. J.J. Hickson led the way for the Cavaliers last night with 31 points, 5 rebounds and 1 steal. Mo Williams got into his first game of the year for the Cavaliers last night and he finished up with 12 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 blocked shot in 24 minutes on the floor despite shooting only 4 of 12 from the floor. Anthony Parker pitched in with 10 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists last night. The Cavaliers are now 1-3 on the season.

Daniel Gibson is off to a fast start for the Cleveland Cavaliers

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Steppin Up by alleyoop on Tuesday 2 November 2010 at 3:43 pm

In his first four years with the Cleveland Cavaliers, 24-year old guard Daniel Gibson was only allowed to shoot the ball. This year though the shackles have come off and he is really playing well. Gibson has played in all 3 games (0 starts) for the Cavs so far this year and he is averaging 29.7 minutes, 15.0 points, 2.7 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 1.0 steal per game. Gibson still has his sweet outside stroke but it’s nice seeing him play a more complete game. This should have happened a couple of years ago.
