The Cleveland Cavaliers look solid at point guard for 2010-11

The Cleveland Cavaliers are in good hands at point guard heading into 2010-11. 27-year old Mo Williams will be the starter. He played in 69 games (68 starts) for the Cavs last season and he averaged 34.2 minutes, 15.8 points, 3.0 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 1.0 steal per game. Williams also shot 42.9% from three point range last season. Williams has now played in 479 games (375 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 30.5 minutes, 13.9 points, 3.1 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 1.0 steal per game. The Cavaliers are going to need Williams to take more shots in 2010-11 and I don’t think he will have a problem with that.

24-year old Ramon Sessions was brought in during the off-season in a deal with the T-Wolves to backup Williams in 2010-11. Sessions played in 82 games (1 start) with the T-Wolves last season and he averaged 21.1 minutes, 8.2 points, 2.6 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game. He has now played in 148 games (47 starts) in his three years in the NBA and he has averaged 24.5 minutes, 10.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game. Sessions is more of a pure, pass first point guard than Williams is. I think part of the reason for that is the fact that Sessions has only shot 17.9% in his career from three point range.
