The Cavs have signed 24-year old C/F Darryl Watkins to a 1-year deal. Watkins did not play in the NBA last season. He played in 2007-08 with the Kings appearing in 9 games (0 starts) in which he averaged 7.9 minutes, 1.3 points and 1.3 rebounds per game. Watkins will have a hard time making the Cavs but you can never have too much depth on the roster.

The Cleveland Cavaliers sign forward Rob Kurz

The Cavs have signed 24-year old forward Rob Kurz to a 1-year deal. Kurz played in 40 games (5 starts) as a rookie last season with the Warriors and he averaged 11.1 minutes, 3.9 points, 2.0 rebounds and 0.5 assists per game. The Cavaliers were smart to sign this guy even though he won’t likely get much playing time. The Cavs’ roster is looking very, very deep for the Cavaliers in 2009-2010.

Leon Powe signs with the Cleveland Cavaliers

The Cavs have signed 25-year old power forward Leon Powe to a 2-year, $1.8 million dollar contract. Powe played in 70 games (7 starts) for the Celtics last season and he averaged 17.5 minutes, 7.7 points, 4.9 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game. He has now played in 189 games (14 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 14.6 minutes, 6.6 points, 4.2 rebounds and 0.4 assists per game. Powe probably won’t be able to play until February but the price was right to bring him in.

The Cleveland Cavaliers release Tarence Kinsey

Blogged under Comings & Goings, General, Bloglockers, Big Cavaliers News, Front Page by alleyoop on Saturday 1 August 2009 at 8:14 am

The Cavs have released 25-year old SG/SF Tarence Kinsey. Kinsey played in 50 games (3 starts) for the Cavs last season and he averaged 5.5 minutes, 2.9 points, 0.8 rebounds and 0.2 assists per game. Kinsey does have talent but he was just too far down on the Cavs’ depth chart to make much of a difference to them. Hopefully Kinsey finds a team that will allow him some minutes so he can really show what he can do.
