The Cleveland Cavs need more from Sasha Pavlovic and Devin Brown

Blogged under Bloglockers, Need to step up, Front Page by alleyoop on Tuesday 11 December 2007 at 9:59 pm

Sasha Pavlovic and Devin Brown are having a rough time in December so far. Pavlovic has started 4 games this month and he has averaged 25.0 minutes, 6.3 points, 1.5 rebounds, 0.8 assists and 1.0 steal per game. Pavlovic is only shooting 27.8% from the floor this month and that’s not good for him with Larry Hughes returning from injury. Devin Brown has played in 4 games (1 start) this month and he’s averaging 19.0 minutes, 4.3 points, 1.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. Brown will likely find himself at the end of the bench unless he starts playing better soon.

A couple of unlikely Cleveland Cavaliers are stepping up

Blogged under Bloglockers, Steppin Up, Front Page by alleyoop on Tuesday 11 December 2007 at 9:52 pm

Shannon Brown and Ira Newble have both played really well so far in December. Brown has played in 4 games (3 starts) in December and he is averaging 25.5 minutes, 13.3 points, 2.3 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.3 steals per game as he’s making the most of his opportunity. Ira Newble is also making the most of the extra minutes he has been getting in December. In 3 games (0 starts) this month Newble is averaging 24.0 minutes, 11.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 0.3 assists and 1.0 steal per game. With the Cavs getting healthy Brown and Newble stand to lost minutes but the team needs them to remain effective.

The Cleveland Cavaliers get off to a tough start

Blogged under Bloglockers, Game recaps, Front Page by alleyoop on Tuesday 11 December 2007 at 9:46 pm

The Cleveland Cavaliers have gotten off to a rough start this season as they are in 3rd place in the Central Division with a 10-12 record which has them 5.5 games behind the Pistons. The Cavs have had problems scoring points this season as they are averaging 96 points per game and they are allowing 101.1 points per game. With the holdouts of Anderson Varejao and Sasha Pavlovic combined with injuries to Larry Hughes and LeBron James it’s understandable that they have started out slow. But they have all four of them back now so look out NBA.

The Cleveland Cavaliers match Bobcats offer sheet to Anderson Varejao

Blogged under Bloglockers, Big Cavaliers News, Front Page by alleyoop on Friday 7 December 2007 at 6:22 pm

The Cavs have matched the 3 year, $14 million dollar offer sheet that the Bobcats signed power forward/center Anderson Varejao to. Varejao will likely return to the Cavs on Tuesday Night. The Cavaliers bench has missed Varejao’s all-out play which infects his teammates when he’s on the court. He has played in 183 games (10 starts) in his three year NBA career and he has averaged 19.4 minutes, 5.6 points, 5.7 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game. Zydrunas Ilgauskas and Drew Gooden have to be relieved that Varejao is returning so that they won’t have to play as many minutes as they are right now which should keep them fresh the rest of the season.

The Cleveland Cavaliers need Pavlovic and Brown to step up

Blogged under Bloglockers, Need to step up, Front Page by alleyoop on Tuesday 4 December 2007 at 5:14 pm

With Larry Hughes out with an injury the Cavs need Sasha Pavlovic and Devin Brown to step up. Pavlovic started the season a tad late due to a contract dispute and he doesn’t appear sharp yet. He has played in 15 games so far this season and he’s averaged 29.1 minutes, 9.4 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game. His shooting has also been off as he’s only hitting 37.2% from the floor. Devin Brown has taken over as the backup shooting guard spot until Hughes returns and the Cavs expected much more than they’ve got from him so far this season. Brown has played 17 games so far this season and he’s averaging 22.8 minutes, 6.7 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game. He also needs to improve his shooting as he’s only hit 35.4% of his shots from the floor and 65.8% from the free throw line so far this year.
