Larry Hughes returned to the starting line-up and scored 16 points and snatched up 4 steals. Anderson Varejao had a great game off the bench with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Damon Jones added 11 points.

The Cavs improved to 13-8 with this victory.

Cavs Rookies helping out

The Cavs figured that whoever they drafted probably wouldn’t get much playing time, but with the injury to Larry Hughes gave the kids some playing time. Second round pick Daniel Gibson has played well in his minutes on the court. Gibson has played in 10 games and has averaged 17.4 minutes, 7.3 points, 2.1 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game so far this season. Gibson is an outstanding shooter as he has hit 15 of 33 3-pointers this season (45.5%). He looks like a steal in the second round.

Shannon Brown was the Cavs 1st round pick and he hasn’t played as well as Gibson. Brown has played in 10 games and has averaged 10.3 minutes, 2.5 points, 1.4 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game so far this season.

Danny Ferry and the Cavs had a good and maybe great draft. Only time will tell.

Blogged under Front Page by Nothing but Net on Tuesday 12 December 2006 at 9:54 am

The Cavs played little defense as they allowed the Hornets to hit 54.8% of their shots from the floor. The Hornets just wanted this game more than the Cavs did as they outscored them 23-16 in the 4th quarter.

Anderson Varejao got another start and played well as he scored 17 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. LeBron James had a rough night shooting (7 of 18) and would up with 15 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. Zydrunas Ilgauskas had a real good game near the basket with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Daniel Gibson added 14 points.

The Cavs fell to 12-8 with this loss.

Daniel Gibson got his first NBA start and he responded with a great game. Gibson scored 18 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Eric Snow continued his fine play of late with 12 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Damon Jones (10 points) and Anderson Varejao (4 points, 11 rebounds) both played well off the bench.

Damon Jones has gotten increased playing time due to the injury to Larry Hughes and he’s been playing well. Jones is averaging 9.4 points, 1.5 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game this year. Jones has been shooting well from everywhere on the court. Jones is hitting 44.5% on FGs, 41.8% on 3-pointers, and 80% on free-throws. Look for Jones to split time behind Hughes and Snow when Hughes returns tomorrow.
